WWWE Logo De Facto

De facto is a term used to describe standards that exist when something becomes the accepted way of doing or using something, but that aren't formally sanctioned by a standards body or committee. The Hayes AT command set has become a de facto industry standard in modem usage, although it has never been formally sanctioned by any committee or standards body. De facto standards often precede de jure standards which are formal standards sanctioned by a committee or standards body.
